Alleged Seat Allocation Discrepancy by JK-BOPEE Raises Concern Among Kargil’s MBBS Aspirants

Kargil, August 13, 2023: Female MBBS aspirants of district Kargil have been concerned over alleged discrepancy in the seat allocation process carried out by the Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) for medical admissions in Jammu and Kashmir. The issue revolves around the alleged negligence of BOPEE in adhering to the stipulated seat matrix, specifically in the ST Kargil girls’ category.

The concerned applicants have come forward with complaints, highlighting what appears to be a significant deviation from the seat matrix. According to a written complaint, the applicant was ranked at the top of the ST Kargil girls’ category based on the provisional list released by Jammu and Kashmir BOPEE. Furthermore, the applicant claims that her first choice in the choice-filling process was Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, a preference aligned with the seat matrix. However, despite these factors, she was reportedly allocated a seat in GMC Jammu, which was her second choice.

Upon contacting the BOPEE office for clarification, the applicant was informed that the reserved seat for the ST Kargil girls’ category was assigned to a person with disabilities (PWD) candidate, contrary to the established seat matrix. The seat matrix initially indicated that there were seats reserved for 9 selected girls from Kargil, but now only 8 girls have allegedly secured MBBS seats, prompting concerns about transparency and adherence to the rules.

The applicant has issued a formal request to BOPEE, urging them to rectify the seat allocation issue promptly to align with the seat matrix. Given the time-sensitive nature of the admissions process, the applicant has expressed urgency in resolving the matter and has faith in the principles of justice prevailing.

The candidates have urgently petitioned the UT Ladakh Administration to intervene in the matter and address the issue promptly before the admission deadline expires.
