Siachen Base Camp in Ladakh Opens for Domestic Tourists and Visitors
VoL Desk, May 21: In a significant development, the Siachen Base Camp, located in the Union Territory of Ladakh, has been officially opened for domestic tourists and visitors. This announcement comes after a notice was issued with the approval of the Secretary of the Tourism and Culture Department, marking a momentous occasion for the people of Nubra and all tourism-related stakeholders in Ladakh.
For the past two years, the Tourism Department of the UT Administration, Ladakh has been tirelessly pursuing the case of opening up the Siachen Base Camp to tourists, responding to the demands from the local community. This effort has finally borne fruit, granting tourists and visitors access to this breathtaking location.
The Headquarters 14 Corps has communicated that visiting the civil tourist facility near the Siachen Base Camp does not require any NOC (No Objection Certificate) or authorization. Domestic tourists and visitors are not required to obtain a permit to visit the civil tourist facility. However, it is important to note that the District Administration will collect an environment fee, the details of which can be found on the official website of Leh District at https://leh.nic.in. With immediate effect, all concerned stakeholders are advised to take note of the opening of the civil tourist facility near the Siachen Base Camp. Great ….Who wouldn’t like to go to Siachen base camp …..will definitely boost tourism in ladakh…but have some concern regarding Siachen glacier…has it receded as is happening with all other glaciers due to global warming if so will too much human interference and presence further aggravate the scenario……Thanks.

Been there on 1st May 2023…. Really mesmerized by the beauty of the glacier and the mountain…. Nubra river beside the road makes it more beautiful…. Good initiative for tourism but tourist should be sensible enough to respect the sanctity of the place.
