Ladakh Skill Development Mission launches the first-ever ‘Voice Over & Dubbing’ course

Leh, April 19: Voiceover and dubbing course by Ladakh Skill Development Mission in collaboration with the Film &Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune commenced today at the All India Radio Studio, Leh. Renowned Voice artist and actor, Uday Sabnis is the Course Director/Trainer for the ten days course for selected 20 trainees. This is the first-ever Voice Artist training programme for the young talents of Ladakh.

Commissioner/ Secretary, Technical Education and Skill Development & Information, Padma Angmo in her opening remarks stated that the career opportunities are opening up in Ladakh for Voice artists with the formation of the UT. She shared that the Administration of UT Ladakh has taken up with the Ministry of I & B for a dedicated Doordarshan Channel for Ladakh and if the proposal is accepted by the Government of India, it will necessitate local content and for that voice artists will have lots of opportunities. She also requested FTII for holding a similar course in Kargil in the coming months.

Faculty and HOD TV Direction, Executive Head Centre for Open Learning, FTII Pune, Prof Milind Damle stated that FTII is organising a training for Voice artists for the first time on the request of the Department of Information, UT Ladakh as it attaches great significance to collaboration with the Administration of UT Ladakh and looks forward to a sustained collaboration in the field of Film and documentary production. He stressed that this course will help the artists in making a career in voice-over and dubbing in Ladakh and elsewhere.

Uday Sabnis, gave a sneak peek into the course content for the coming days and shared how he bagged the role of ‘Baghera’ in the highly popular serial ‘Jungle Book’ on Doordarshan in 1989-90. As a voice actor, Uday Sabnis has worked in Indian language and also dubbed for foreign films like Harry Potter films, Batman series, Iron Man 3, X-Men, The Matrix films among others.

Programme Head, AIR, Leh, Sonam Wangchuk while addressing the participants, urged them to take full advantage of this training to comprehend the opportunities as a voice artist in the industry and for initiating entrepreneurship opportunities for the same. Assistant Director, Information, Leh, Dr. Tundup Namgyal gave the welcome address, and vote of thanks was presented by OSD, Tech. Education and Skill Development Department, Abid Hussain.

Veteran Film actor, Phunsok Ladakhi, Programme Head, AIR, Leh, Sonam Wangchuk were also present for the launch of the course. The VoiceOver and Dubbing Training is being organized as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations and is being held from 19th – 29th of April, 2022.
