Director A&SH tours Sheep, Fish Farm In Suru Valley

Kargil/ Jan. 02: Director Animal and Sheep Husbandry (A&SH) and Fisheries, visited Karakul Sheep Farm Khumbathang and Fish Farm Damsna on Friday. This visit aimed to promote Kargil district as an integrated tourism destination by linking tourism industry with animal farm sector.

In the tour District Sheep Husbandry Officer Dr Iftikhar Hussain, Assistant Director Fisheries Murtaza Ali, Assistant Director Tourism Syed Towha Aga and other officers were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Director A&SH Ladakh Dr Muhammad Raza Abassi highlighted the importance of Karakul Sheep Farm and Trout Fish Farm. He termed these locations as major tourist attractions in Kargil district if integrated with the tourism industry. The Director said that Kargil has vast potential in the animal farm sector. If this sector integrated with the tourism industry, that will boost the integrated tourism sector. The Karakul Farm Khumbathang is the only farm in India that rears Karakul Sheep, said the director.

The Director stressed concerned officers to formulate timely policies to link animal farm with the tourism industry. Later, the Director conveyed a meeting of concerned officers. The meeting discussed various issues related to their departments including filling up of vacant posts.

Dr Muhammad Raza assured to take up all issues including filling up of vacant posts with the UT Administration. He asked officers to work with dedication to make the animal farm sector one of the profitable departments in Ladakh.
