Kargil mourns “martyrdom” of Iran’s President Ayatollah Syed Ibrahim Raeisi, colleagues

VoL Desk, May 21: Following the loss of life of Iran’s President, Ayatollah Syed Ibrahim Raeisi and his colleagues in a helicopter crash, the Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust, Kargil (IKMT) and other religious and political institutions of Kargil District expressed condolence and grief over the tragic loss in the accident.

The IKMT, Kargil issued a condolence letter on behalf of the people by expressing deeply shock over the “martyrdom” of President of Iran and his colleague in tragic helicopter accident. In the letter the organization prayed for patience to the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamanie, people of Iran and the family of the Martyrs over the tragic loss.

Similarly, the Jamiat Ulema Isna Ashriya Kargil (JUIAK), Jamiat Ulema Leh, Anjuman Sahib Zaman Sankoo, Anjuman Inqilab Mehdi Suru, and various other organizations also issued condolence messages expressing support to the Supreme Leader, the people of Iran and the bereaved families.

With the uncertain news of the crash on Sunday evening prayer congregations were abruptly conducted in various villages and hamlets across Kargil to pray for the safety of Ayatollah Ibrahim Raisi and his colleagues.

On certainty of his demise, congregations were held at Jama Masjid Kargil by IKMT, in Sankoo by Anjuman Sahib Zaman and at various villages across Kargil. The mourning congregations will continue for three days.

The helicopter carrying Raeisi and his entourage crashed around afternoon on Sunday as it was on its way to Tabriz, the capital of Iran’s East Azerbaijan province, from a location on the border with the Republic of Azerbaijan where the Iranian president had opened a major dam project.

Rescuers found the wreckage of the helicopter early on Monday after hours of extensive search which involved more than 70 teams.

Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and two senior provincial officials along with crew members and bodyguards also died as a result of the crash.
