Agriculture Dept. Kargil organizes training on “School Soil Health Program” at JNV, Kargil

Kargil, May 13: Department of Agriculture Kargil today organized a one-day orientation cum training on “School Soil Health Programme” at PM Shri School Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Khumbathang Kargil.

The officers from Agriculture Department and resource persons from KVK-1 Kargil conducted a thorough training to the student batches of JNV School and teaching staff on the importance and maintenance of Soil Health, Soil Sampling Methods and use of SHC mobile App, importance of soil fertility and productivity and implementation and success of Soil Health Card scheme in Kargil district. 

Pertinently, the JNV School Khumbathang Kargil is among schools undertaken by Directorate of Agriculture & Farmer Welfare (DA&FW), GoI under School Soil Health Program at national level and school has been allotted targets for collection of soil samples, analysis and generation of Soil Health Cards in Kargil district during the year 2024-25.

Besides the training session the students were also demonstrated the method of soil sample collection from cultivated fields and use of mobile Apps for geo-tagging, farmer registration, crop selection, test result entry and generation of Soil Health Cards for each sample. 

The orientation cum training session was witnessed and trainings & demonstration were conducted by Chief Agriculture Officer Kargil, Ashiq Hussain Basharat; Deputy Director CAD Kargil, Mohd Iqbaal; Principal JNV Kargil, Kumar Ashvini Amitabh; Senior Scientist KVK-1, Dr. Nazir Hussain; District Nodal Officer Kargil, Razia Banoo; Assistant Soil Chemist Kargil; Agriculture Extension Officers; Junior Agriculture Extension Officers and teaching staff of JNV Kargil.
