Kargil Forest Division organizes insect management drive in Skambu village

Kargil, April 15: Kargil Forest Division in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kargil today organized a low defoliating insect management drive to deal with Gypsy moths infecting the willow trees in Skambu Village of Shargole Constituency.

During the programme, Chief Scientist KVK, Dr Mehdi Akhoon gave a live demonstration to the farmers to tackle with the moth.

He informed the farmers about its different biological aspects and stages in which it attacks the leaves of willow trees.

During the program, a drive was held where the farmers under the supervision of scientists of KVK and Officers of Department of Forestry participated in the removal of the Gypsy moths from branches and trunks of willow trees and gathered them in water tubs dissolved with detergents.

Dr Mehdi said this process needs to be continued with the similar modules to eradicate gypsy moth from the area in coming two-three years.

Mohammad Ilyas, Range Forest Officer expressed gratitude to the farmers and  scientists of KVK for making the event successful. He assured that such drives will be conducted in future and this event will become an inspiration for other areas to deal with such infestations.

Chief Scientist KVK, Dr Mehdi Akhoon, Agriculture Economist KVK, Dr Mansoora Hussain, Range Forest Officer Mohamad Ilyas, Block Forest Officer, Mohamad Sadiq, farmers of Skambu Village besides other concerned officers of departments participated in the insect management drive.
