DM Leh orders imposition of Section 144 ahead of “Pashmina March”

VoL Desk, April 05: The District Magistrate, Leh has ordered the imposition of Section 144 of CrPC 1973 two days ahead of the “Pashmina March” spearheaded by environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk and Leh Apex Body scheduled for April 07.

The Apex Body member, Tsering Dorjay Lakruk and Sonam Wangchuk, in a press conference, later condemned the imposition of Section 144.

The DM has issued the order in view of inputs from the Superintendent of Police regarding the apprehension of breach of peace and public tranquility in the district.

As per Section 144 imposed in Leh district, no procession/rally/march etc. shall be taken out by anyone without the prior approval of the District Magistrate, Leh, in writing.

The order prohibits use of vehicles mounted or other loudspeakers without prior approval from the competent authority and no public gathering shall take place without the prior approval of the competent authority.

The order has also prohibited any statements, which has the potential to disturb communal harmony, and public tranquility and may lead to law and order problems in the district. All the persons shall ensure that they follow the model court of conduct and that all the activities are according to the law.
