Ladakhi Students in Delhi to Join Kargil Hunger Strike, Demand Statehood, Sixth Schedule

VoL Desk, March 22: In support of the hunger strike initiated by the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) in Kargil starting March 24th, Ladakhi students residing in Delhi have declared their intention to hold a protest at the Ladakh Buddha Vihar in Delhi on the same day.

The protests across the Ladakh region are intensifying, spanning Leh, Kargil, Jammu, and Delhi, led by the Kargil Democratic Alliance and the Leh Apex Body (LAB). Their demands, encompassing statehood for Ladakh and inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, remain at the forefront of their agitation.

In Delhi, the protest is organized by the All Kargil (Ladakh) Students’ Association Delhi and the Ladakh Students’ Welfare Society Delhi, both of which have previously mobilized demonstrations at the same venue.

Meanwhile, prominent social activist and recipient of the Magsaysay Award, Sonam Wangchuk, continues his hunger strike in Leh, now in its 17th day out of a planned 21 days.
