Kargil up in arms for Statehood, Six Schedule; Announce hunger strike

VoL Desk, March 20: Hundreds of people took to street in Kargil city demanding the fulfillment of four-point demands of Ladakh especially Statehood for Ladakh and inclusion in Sixth Schedule of Indian Constitution. The protest rally was spearheaded by the Kargil Democratic Alliance, an amalgam of political parties, religious communities and civil societies.

The protest rally begins from Fatima Chowk which passing through the main bazaar Kargil culminated at the Hussaini Park. At hussaini Park the protest rally was addressed by Ladakh’s veteran leaders and public speakers that include KDA Co-Chairman, Asgar Ali Karbalai, KDA Co-Chairman, Qambar Ali Akhoon, Vice-Chairman, IKMT, Sheikh Hassanain Rizwani, representative Jamiat Ulema Isna Ashriya Kargil Sajjad Hussain Kargili and various political and religious leader.

While addressing to the huge gathering Asgar Ali Karbalai announced hunger strike in Kargil from March 24 to 27 under the leadership of KDA and appealed the general public for mass participation. He said that the government has a clandestine policy to abrogate the statehood status of the states which have less than 1 cr population, so he appealed such states to support the Ladakh movement to stop such a trend in the country.

During the rally Qambar Ali Akhoon referring to Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike going on in Leh said that if anything happens to him as his health condition is deteriorating, the government will be responsible.
