Ladakh Research Scholars Highlights Concerns Over UOL’s Teaching Staff Recruitment Process

VoL Desk, Dec. 28: The Ladakh Research Scholars Forum (LRSF) has voiced apprehensions regarding the “ambiguous” recruitment rules and roster followed by the University of Ladakh in its recently advertised teaching staff recruitment drive, as stated by the Chief Coordinator in a press release.

During a meeting on December 24, the LRSF expressed deep concerns about the teaching posts advertised by the University of Ladakh (UOL), emphasizing uncertainties surrounding recruitment rules and reservation rosters.

A primary concern raised by the LRSF was the perceived lack of transparency in the recruitment process, particularly regarding the reservation roster. The Forum stressed the importance of a fair and well-defined reservation roster to ensure equal consideration for all subjects. The ambiguity persists on whether ST candidates nationwide would be considered for posts reserved for STs at the University of Ladakh, deviating from the practice in state universities that typically consider only native STs for such positions.

Given the current status of the University as a Cluster University, adhering to UGC recruitment rules may potentially deprive educated and eligible local youths of opportunities within the University of Ladakh. Amendments to the University Act are underway, which if successfully amended would reserve at least 15 posts for native Ladakhi’s, which the scholars see as insufficient.

The Forum calls for a clear vision from the University authorities and Ladakh Administration. Moreover, the absence of a proper Recruitment Rule has led to ambiguity in the selection of subjects for Associate and Assistant Professor posts.

Through this press release, the LRSF urges the University of Ladakh to provide comprehensive information on the recruitment rules and roster for the advertised teaching posts. Transparency is essential not only for applicants but also for fostering trust within the community.

The LRSF calls upon the University of Ladakh to engage in a dialogue with stakeholders, including community representatives and concerned individuals, to address these issues and foster a more transparent and inclusive recruitment process.

The Forum also appeals to public representatives, especially the Hon’ble Chairman/CECs of LAHDC Leh & Kargil, and the Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Ladakh), to raise the matter with the Hon’ble Chancellor, University of Ladakh, Brig. Dr. BD Mishra (Retd.), and the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, University of Ladakh, ensuring fair and transparent recruitments.
