EC Tashi Chairs Meeting Regarding Conservation Goals of Snow Leopard Conservancy India Trust

Kargil, Dec 28: Executive Councilor (RDD, Forest Wildlife and Zanskar Affairs) LAHDC, Kargil, Er. Punchok Tashi chaired a meeting regarding conservation goals of Snow Leopard Conservancy India Trust (SLCIT) and discussed to converge and align existing government schemes with the SLCIT.

SDM Zanskar, Wildlife Warden Kargil, District Sheep Husbandry Officer, AD Tourism, Livestock Development Officer, Zanskar, Director SLCIT, Ladakh, Dr Namgyal and other concerned officers attended the meeting.

The Director SLCIT Ladakh gave a detailed presentation about the role of SLCIT in Zanskar and highlighted its mission of working in Ladakh region.

He said Ladakh has potential in nature tourism especially in wildlife. While expressing concern over human-snow leopard conflict, the director said it becomes important mission to make aware people about the importance of wildlife ecology in Ladakh.

Dr Namgyal further informed the EC that they have been actively working in Zanskar over the past three years. He also highlighted their achievements and working experience with local communities.

The Director SLCIT urged the EC to align the ongoing project with various government departmental schemes, enhancing the effective implementation of the initiative. Additionally, he proposed the creation of a joint fund, collaborating between the government and the trust, to further support the project.

While addressing the meeting, the EC Tashi applauded the efforts of SLCIT for its extraordinary work in preservation and conservation of wildlife species especially snow leopards in Zanskar.

He said a project is successful only with full coordination of local government and the inhabitants of the area. EC Tashi advised them to prepare a detailed plan regarding the activities to be conducted in various locations of Zankar and furnish a copy of it to LAHDC Kargil for collaboration.

Furthermore, Tashi assured full support on behalf of LAHDC for conserving and preserving precious wildlife species in the Kargil district.
