Union Home Ministry Invites Ladakh Leaders for Crucial Talks

VoL Desk, Nov. 24: Reliable sources have indicated that the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) and the Leh Apex Body (LAB) received invitations from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to discuss crucial issues concerning Ladakh once again.

Reports initially suggested that leaders from these organizations in the two Ladakh districts would be summoned to Delhi only after the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil elections. However, a meeting is now slated for December 4 to address these matters.

Upon contacting the head of KDA, our representative learned that the representatives for this meeting have yet to be finalized, which will be made public by the end of this month. Sources suggest that a delegation comprising five to seven members from both organizations is anticipated to attend the Ministry of Home Affairs’ meeting.

Multiple discussions between the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ladakh’s leaders have centered on key agendas, including full statehood for Ladakh, safeguarding measures under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, allocation of separate Lok Sabha seats for Leh and Kargil, and strategies for local youth employment. The upcoming December 4 meeting is part of this ongoing dialogue.

Given the parliamentary elections scheduled for next April, there’s considerable anticipation among the public regarding progress on Ladakh’s critical issues in the forthcoming December 4 meeting.
