CEC Kargil Inaugurates Eat Right Millet Mela at JNV Kargil

Kargil, Nov 29: The Chairman and CEC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today inaugurated Eat Right Millet Mela held at JNV Campus Kargil. The event is a part of a nationwide awareness campaign being organised FSSAI through its state unit to disseminate the importance of millets among the general mass.

CEC Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon inspected millet food stalls in detail and appreciated the efforts in organising the stalls. The CEC shed light on the event’s significance and emphasized the importance of incorporating millets into our diets.

During the programme Dr. Mohd Issa from Kargil Campus University of Ladakh and Dr. Nazir Hussain, Jr. Scientist from KVK Kargil, also enlightened the audience on the nutritional benefits and diverse uses of millets. Executive Councillor Punchok Tashi, earlier this morning flagged off eat right walkathon from UoL Kargil Campus where hundreds students from JNV took part.

The  walkathon Started from Kargil Campus University of Ladakh to JNV Campus Kargil. EC Phunstok Tashi was the Guest of honor, while as Kaneez Fatima, Director University of Ladakh Kargil Campus, was the special guest on the occasion.

Participating schools in the food stall, included  Kargil Campus University of ladakh, Kandreya Vidyalaya, and JNV campus Kargil. These schools showcased their culinary skills in a spirited food stall competition. Kandreya Vidyalaya claimed the top position, followed by JNV in second place, and the Educated Department UoL Kargil Campus securing third place and Tribal Research Institute received the Award of Participants for their outstanding contribution.

The event attracted prominent figures, including officials from Food Safety Ladakh, JNVK students, teachers, and was concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Ladakh, Thamchos Gurmet.

This Millet Mela not only celebrated the rich heritage of millets but also underscored the commitment to promoting healthy eating habits in the region. It is pertinent to mention that in parallel to other parts of the country Food Safety Ladakh is organising Eat Right Millet Mela, walkathon and FSSAI registration and licensing camps at block, tehsil, district and UT level in Ladakh.
