Arba’een, the 40th Day of Imam Hussain’s Martyrdom Observed in Kargil

Vol Desk, September 07: Arba’een, the solemn occasion marking the 40th day since the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S), was observed with reverence in different parts of Kargil district where thousands of people took part in procession. This day holds great significance in the hearts of Shia Muslims worldwide.

Arba’een serves as the culmination of a 40-day mourning period, beginning with the tragic events of the 10th of Muharram when Hazrat Imam Hussein (AS) and his 72 devoted companions sacrificed their lives in the year 680 A.D. The battleground was Karbala, a city in modern-day Iraq, which now houses the sacred shrine of Imam Hussein, a revered sanctuary for Shia Muslims.

The uprising led by Imam Hussein (AS) in Karbala symbolizes unwavering resistance against oppression, showcasing the valor of the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) grandson and his loyal relatives who bravely confronted injustice.

The largest procession in Kargil was organized under the banner of the IKMT and JUIAK, where as in Sankoo, religious processions were coordinated by Anjuman-Sahib Zaman and Markaz-Tabligah Imam Reza Sankoo. Thousands of mourners participated, expressing their grief through chest-beating and reciting elegies and hymns in honor of the Karbala martyrs.

Religious scholars paid heartfelt tributes to the martyrs of Karbala, emphasizing that these commemorations serve to reaffirm their commitment to the teachings and ideals of Imam Hussein and his loyal companions, who sacrificed their lives to preserve the true essence of Islam. They underlined that Karbala conveys a universal message to humanity that whenever truth and righteousness are suppressed while evil and falsehood prevail, it is incumbent upon us to uphold the message of Imam Hussein (AS) entrusted to us by our Prophet. In their speeches, the religious scholars elaborated on the teachings of Hazrat Imam Hussein (AS) and various aspects of the Karbala tragedy.

Prayers for peace, prosperity, and communal harmony, especially in our country, were offered during the procession. The solemn event concluded with the recitation of the Zeyarat Arba’een, led by religious scholars.
