Missing Bodies from Kargil Found in Kharmang; Appeal for Repatriation

VoL Desk, August 01: In a tragic turn of events, the lifeless body of Shabbir Ahmad, a resident of Drass, Kargil, was discovered on the banks of the Indus River at Kharmang Khas in Pakistan occupied territory, reported local news.

This comes just a few days after the body of 28-year-old Belqees Banoo from Akchamal, Kargil, was found in Mayurdo, Kharmang. As per a lookout notice by Ladakh Police, Belqees Banoo was reported missing since the morning of July 15, 2023.

The recent body found is believed to be related to a recent car accident where five individuals, including one from Drass, Kargil, and four from Doda, Jammu & Kashmir, have been reported missing after their vehicle was found submerged in a river. One person was found inside the car, while the other four were reported missing. The body found at Kharmang is believed to be of Shabbir Ahmad.

The grieving relatives of Shabbir Ahmad and Belqees Banoo have taken to social media to appeal to the governments of Pakistan and India for the repatriation of the bodies through the ancient route of Kargil, reported news portals.

The incidents have left the local community in deep sorrow, as they came together to perform the last rites of Belqees Banoo in Kharmang.
