NCW organizes awareness training on sexual harassment of women at workplaces

Kargil, July 18: The National Commission for Women (NCW) today organised awareness training on Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal Act, 2013) for government employees of Kargil district at Conference Hall, Baroo, Kargil.

Program Officer ICDS, Nargis Bano, welcomed the team from NCW. The aim of the training was to make employees of different departments aware about the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) rules.

Rector Kargil Campus, Kaneez Fatima, Program Officer ICDS, Nargis Bano, DSWO, Kargil, Aga Syed Jamal, DPO, Kargil Padma Angmo, Assistant Labour Commissioner Kargil, Razia Khatoon, besides various district officers, representatives from different departments of Kargil district were part of the training.

Senior psychologist on women issues, Dr Shirisha Sathe presented a presentation and briefed on the evolution of PoSH Act and meaning of Sexual Harassment at workplace with the help of various case studies.

She explained different types of sexual harassments and stressed on the impact of such behaviour on women along with the need for educating oneself.

In addition to that, she explained inquiry redressal procedure for filling complaint to Internal Committee (IC) and also responsibility of the organisation in handling such cases.

Dr Shirisha said that 70 percent of sexual harassment cases remain unreported. She also explained the gender stereotypes, desirability and consent in detail and how to wipe out the negative mindset from society towards women.

She stressed making women feel safe at work place as it is the prime indicator of the healthy society. In the end the questions and feedback was taken from the audiences. The women who participated in the training program shared their experiences while working in different departments.

They also put forth suggestions on how to change the negative mind set towards women and stressed to aware and make understand the women about the laws related to PoSH and procedures that needed to be followed. The participants also reiterated that the training will raise awareness among the employees.
