Mobilization Campaign in Zanskar Promotes Self-Help Groups and Livelihood Opportunities

Zanskar, June 12: In an effort to promote self-sufficiency and empower local communities, a mobilization campaign was recently conducted in the villages of Tungri, Hongchat, and Rijing in Block Karsha of Zanskar Sub-Division. The campaign was directed and supervised by Shri. Gh. Muhammad JKAS, Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) of Kargil.

During the campaign, Muneer Rasul Wani, Deputy Project Manager (DPM) of Ladakh Rural Livelihood Mission (LRLM) in Kargil, addressed the attendees and shed light on the formation process, benefits, schemes, and opportunities available through Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Mr. Muneer also highlighted the credit facilities and linkages provided by LRLM, showcasing success stories of individual SHG members from Telangana through a documentary screening. He further encouraged women to become part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) SHG network.

The discussion also encompassed various trades that can be covered under SHGs, including farm and non-farm activities. The convergence of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) and Community-Based Organizations (CBO) was extensively explored, aiming to provide comprehensive support and resources to SHGs.

The Sarpanch of Tungri village also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of availing the benefits offered by LRLM. Approximately 65 households were represented by women who attended the program, making it a well-attended and successful event.

The mobilization campaign in Zanskar served as a platform to educate and motivate local women about the opportunities and support available through SHGs. By fostering self-reliance and entrepreneurship, such initiatives contribute to the overall development and empowerment of communities in the region.
