LG Ladakh Chairs 3rd University Council Meeting, Emphasizes Local Recruitment

Vol, Desk June 21: The Hon’ble Lt Governor of Ladakh, Brig (Dr) BD Mishra, who also serves as the Chancellor of the University of Ladakh, recently presided over the 3rd University Council Meeting at Raj Niwas in Leh. The meeting focused on various important agendas aimed at enhancing the functioning and development of the university and its constituent colleges.

One of the key decisions made during the meeting was related to the appointment of Associate Professors within the University of Ladakh (UoL). Additionally, the University Council addressed matters concerning the recruitment rules for non-teaching positions in the university and its constituent colleges, the current status of college staff, as well as recruitment for teaching and non-teaching positions. An amendment to the university act was also discussed.

In a significant move, the University Council decided to reserve all non-teaching positions within the University of Ladakh and its constituent colleges exclusively for residents of Ladakh. This decision aims to promote local talent and provide employment opportunities to individuals from the region.

Furthermore, the University Council agreed to follow the recruitment guidelines established by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for the appointment of teaching positions within the University of Ladakh. This step ensures that the selection process adheres to standardized practices and maintains the highest standards of education.

Regarding the vacant teaching positions in the constituent colleges, the University Council decided to defer recruitment for the time being and decided that a proposal for amendment to the University Act will be taken with Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The objective is to introduce a resident clause for teaching posts in the constituent colleges, further emphasizing the importance of local involvement in the educational system.
