Ladakh Delegation Meets Home Ministry to Discuss Four-Point Agendas and Ladakh Committee Composition

Kargil, June 19, 2023: A high-powered delegation representing the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) held a crucial meeting with the Home Ministry in Delhi today, said Co-Chairman, KDA, Haji Asgar Ali Karbalai.

The delegation deliberated on Ladakh’s four-point agendas and discussed the composition of the Ladakh committee to facilitate ongoing talks with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

The meeting witnessed the presence of esteemed attendees, including Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai, Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, and officials from the MHA. Representing the Leh Apex Body were Chief Thupstan Chewang, Tsering Dorjay Lakruk, and Rigzin Spalbar, while Asgar Ali Karbalai, Qambar Ali Akhone, and Sajjad Kargili represented the Kargil Democratic Alliance.

During the deliberations, the delegation highlighted and apprised the Home Ministry about the four-point agendas of Ladakh, stressing the importance of including them in the upcoming talks between Ladakh’s leadership and the MHA. The delegation also expressed their desire for the Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance to have a say in selecting the Ladakh committee for future meetings, with the final decision on the number of committee members resting with the MHA.

The officials from the Ministry assured the Ladakh leadership that their agendas would be carefully considered and discussed further. They pledged to communicate the future course of action regarding the matters at hand.

The four-point agenda presented by the Ladakh delegation encompasses significant issues, namely the demand for full-fledged statehood for Ladakh, constitutional safeguards under the 6th schedule of the Indian Constitution, the establishment of an early recruitment process and Public Service Commission (PSC) for Ladakh, and the allocation of separate Lok Sabha seats for Leh and Kargil districts. This meeting marks a crucial step in addressing the concerns and aspirations of Ladakh, as the delegation seeks meaningful dialogue and progress in securing the rights and representation of the region. The Ladakh leadership remains hopeful for a positive outcome that reflects the interests and aspirations of the local populace.
