Zanskar Buddhist Association Requests Closure of Meat and Alcohol Establishments during Auspicious Period

Zanskar, VoL Desk, May 20 – The Zanskar Buddhist Association, led by President Passang Lhawang, has issued a notification urging the closure of meat shops, chicken shops, and bars in Zanskar during the upcoming auspicious period of Saka Dawa, a significant occasion for the Buddhist community. The notification, marked as Ref. No: ZBA/92/23 and dated 15.05.2023, appeals to the owners of such establishments to respect the sentiments and feelings of the Buddhist community and the general public.

To honor the auspicious days ahead for the Buddhist community, the Zanskar Buddhist Association requests all meat, chicken, and non-vegetarian shops, as well as wine shops and bars operating in Padum, Zanskar, to remain closed starting from 20.05.2023 until 19.06.2023. The association emphasizes the importance of observing this period as a mark of reverence.

Additionally, hotel and restaurant owners in Zanskar Sub-Division are kindly requested to refrain from serving non-vegetarian dishes during the mentioned auspicious period. The Zanskar Buddhist Association appeals to the public to avoid using and selling non-vegetarian food and alcohol throughout this period.

In light of these requests, the concerned officials are urged to take necessary action to ensure the closure of meat shops, wine shops, and bars in Padum as per the mentioned dates.
