LBA Kargil branch celebrates Buddha Purnima with Religious Harmony & Enthusiasm

VoL Desk, May 05: The Kargil branch of the Ladakh Buddhist Association celebrated the 2567th Buddha Purnima at the Syed Mehdi Memorial Hall in Kargil today. The event was marked by a spirit of religious harmony and enthusiasm.

Geshe Tsewang Dorjay, a renowned religious scholar from Ladakh, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Chhering Dorjay Lakrok, the Senior Vice President of LBA, was the Guest of Honour.

The President of LBA Kargil, on behalf of the Buddhist population of Kargil, Ladakh, extends a warm invitation to join us as a valued guest on this auspicious occasion.

In addition to the Buddhist community, the event was attended by representatives of various religious communities, including Sardar Karan Singh from the Sikh community, Ravinder Nath, the sole Hindu family in Kargil, and senior citizen Haji Hussain Akchamal. The President of the Ex-Servicemen Association, along with monks, nuns, and hundreds of people, also graced the event with their presence.

During the celebration, Tsewang Dorjey, the Nominated Councillor of LAHDC Kargil, Engineer Haji Mohd Hussain, Sardar Karan Singh, and others addressed the audience, shedding light on the significance of the occasion.

The event featured vibrant cultural programs presented by school children and cultural troupes. The renowned singer from Aryan Valley, Dechen Chiskit, also enthralled the audience with a captivating performance.

Tsering Dorjey Lakrook, in his speech, emphasized the teachings of Gautam Buddha and urged people to embrace them for fostering peace and prosperity in society. He also mentioned LBA’s plan to construct a grand Gonpa on the land allocated by LAHDC Kargil, urging them to expedite the process of handing over the land to LBA.

Geshe Tsewang Dorjay highlighted Buddha’s teachings of non-violence (ahimsa) and encouraged individuals to follow them in order to establish peace and harmony in society. He further emphasized the importance of collective thinking and unity for creating a better society.

He conveyed his heartfelt wishes to the people of Kargil on this auspicious day and offered prayers for peace and harmony to prevail in society.
