Brig (Dr) BD Mishra, Lt. Governor of Ladakh, concludes four-day tour to Kargil

VoL Desk, April 19: This morning (April 19), Brig (Dr) BD Mishra, Lt. Governor of Ladakh, left for Leh after concluding his tour of Kargil. During his journey, he planned to visit Shargole and Khagral village.

On April 15, the Hon’ble Lt. Governor Ladakh, Brig (Dr) BD Mishra arrived in Kargil for his four-day long tour to the district to experience the developmental works on the ground and to closely learn the aspirations and expectations of the people. On the way, he visited Mulbek village and interacted with public delegations to hear their grievances and assured them of looking into the matters. He also visited the historical Maitriya Buddha statue at Mulbek, which he stated deepened his appreciation for Ladakh’s rich history and cultural heritage.

On Sunday, the LG attended the Apricot Blossom Festival in Kargil, where he stressed the importance of clean water sources and planting saplings to increase Ladakh’s green cover. He also instructed the Chairman, LAHDC Kargil, to identify a suitable location for a cultural stage to boost tourism in Kargil and assured intervention in acquiring GI certification for Halman Apricot.

The LG addressed the demand for Actual Line of Control (ALC) certificates from Ladakh’s border areas and assured the formation of a committee to investigate the issue and the need for a special package for these regions. On Monday, he met with various public delegations in Kargil to hear their grievances and requested intervention.

The same evening, the LG visited the District Hospital in Kargil to check on the condition of boys injured in an explosion of a 24-year-old bomb from the Kargil War in Kurbathang. He announced Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia to the family of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh each for the injured. He condoled the family of the deceased and stated that steps to remove blinds from those areas would be carried out immediately.

The LG also visited the Community Health Centre in Sankoo and assessed the available facilities and functioning of the hospital. He interacted with patients and inquired about the requirements for additional facilities. Additionally, he revealed plans to establish committees to conduct studies aimed at improving and expanding various key sectors, such as health, education, police, and administrative units.

On April 17, the Hon’ble Lt Governor hosted an Iftar party for people from different communities at Kargil, where he emphasized the need for a joint effort from every section of society to address various social issues. He appealed to actively contribute to the fight against drug abuse and corruption, as well as to make genuine efforts towards water conservation.

This morning (April 19), Brig (Dr) BD Mishra, Lt. Governor of Ladakh, departed for Leh, with plans to visit Shargole and Khagral villages en route.
