It is pertinent to mention that amongst other developmental initiatives being promoted by GoI during India’s ongoing G20 presidency, showcasing India’s success in the Digital Economy is one of the objectives. Therefore, in sync with the national objective, UT Administration is striving to promote the use of digital payment systems in the Union Territory, especially during the scheduled Y-20 Pre-Summit in Leh from 26th to 28th April.

For the overall promotion of digital payment systems, Advisor Narula discussed possibilities in different sectors/departments, such as providing financial benefits/scholarships in schools and colleges, and medical benefits under the National Health Mission.

However, on an immediate basis, Advisor Narula suggested that QR code-based payments must be introduced at tourist hot spots and public parking points. He further directed the concerned officials to enable the system of Aadhaar-based Subsidies to the beneficiaries.

Advisor Narula stressed the need to publicize the use of digital payment platforms and directed Assistant General Manager/Convenor UTLBC, Ladakh, Tsering Morup to provide QR codes to all vendors, merchants, taxis and buses, especially the electric buses of the UT Administration.
Director Accounts & Treasuries Dr. Safdar Ali, and other concerned officials attended the meeting.
