Week-long Cultural Revival Workshop and Language Awareness Camp concludes at Hagnis, Shakar Chiktan

Kargil, March 07, 2023: The week-long Cultural Revival Workshop and Language Awareness Camp organized by LAHDC Kargil in collaboration with Ladakh Academy of Arts, Culture and Languages, Kargil which started March 01, 2023 concluded today at Hagnis, Shakar Chiktan Sub Division, in which more than 40 participants actively participated.

Executive Councilor Health, LAHDC, Kargil, Mohsin Ali, was present as chief guest on the occasion. Many prominent personalities who attended the event included PRIs members of Hagnis area, village representatives, general public and participations.

The week-long camp was held in around 25 villages of Kargil district starting from Feb 16 onwards. This camp was aimed to preserve, conserve and promote the rich socio-cultural heritage of Ladakh which is equally unique and significant.

It focused on strongly upholding the tribal identity of Ladakh embedded in its different customs, traditions, rituals, and languages in the course of the developmental path that Ladakh as a Union Territory now tread upon.

Addressing the gathering, EC Mohsin appreciated the efforts of the Ladakh Cultural Academy Kargil for organizing such a fruitful workshop in the far-flung areas of Kargil which was need of the hour.

He further expressed hope that the camp will achieve the vision and objective with which it was initiated by the Council & Ladakh Cultural Academy.

Mohsin said the onus of preserving the language, culture and heritage is on ourselves and that we should strive internally to protect and conserve the rich tribal identity. 

Haji Issa Ghulam, Naib Sarpanch Hagnis, congratulated LAHDC, Kargil and Ladakh Cultural Academy Kargil for organizing such workshops in their villages for the first time. He said such Cultural Revival Workshop will definitely bring changes in society. On behalf of the people of Hagnis, he thanked the organizers for organizing such fruitful events.

Zakir Hussain, Section Officer, LAACL, Kargil stated that UT Administration & Hill Council, Kargil are committed and are making concerted efforts in promoting and conserving the rich cultural heritage according to the uniqueness of Ladakh.

Workshop Coordinator, in his welcome speech, highlighted the importance of Ladakh’s rich traditions, customs, language, and heritage and the need for its promotion and preservation at the grassroots level.

Akhone Ali Murtaza, Mala of the Hagnis presented vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to the organizer for holding the week-long workshop which will benefit the young generation.
