OTT post aspirants in Kargil concerned due to delay in recruitment

VoL Desk, Feb. 10: Mohammad, a student who did not want to reveal his full name, completed his diploma course in Operation Theatre Technician (OTT), in the year 2012. Since then, in the last ten years, he is waiting for the District Administration to advertise posts related to his course. Meanwhile, he has no regular source of income.

Mohammad is concerned about getting overage for the post if it takes time to get advertised in the new setup of the Union Territory. His concern is further added by the competition in the examination, if conducted, the students who recently passed their course would perform better in the examination as their preparation and knowledge of the subject are fresh.

Similarly, Hussain, who also did not want to mention his name, completed a Diploma and Degree course in 2017. His concerns are also similar to that of Mohammad. They are not the only two but claim to have more than 100 students all over District Kargil who have pursued courses in Operation Theatre Technician (OTT).

To the disappointment of the OTT post aspirants, there was no vacancy for the said post in the recently advertised list of vacancies by the LAHDC-Kargil District Subordinate Services Recruitment Board (DSSRB), said the students.

The students alleged that the Administration has adjusted the state-level staff who were working in the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir against the District level posts.

LAHDC Kargil, Councillor from Shakar-Chiktan, Zakir Hussain also took to Twitter to raise the issue of the students. “Operation Theatre Technician aspirants of Kargil, Distt demands advertisement of vacant post since inception of New UT but they r not being heard”, read the tweet.

He appealed to Lieutenant Governor Ladakh and Divisional Commissioner to intervene to “save the future of these technically educated youths”.

The students had also raised the issue with the Principal Secretary, Health Dr Pawan Kotwal of which a copy of the memorandum was provided to this office. The students had requested the PS to advertise the posts soon considering the overage of students who are waiting for the last eight to ten years. Months before, the students had also raised the issue to Deputy Commissioner Kargil and CEC Kargil who assured to raise the issue with the concerned authorities.
