MHA constitutes “High Powered Committee” to discuss Ladakh issues

VoL Desk, Jan. 03: The Ministry of Home Affairs, Department of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh Affairs (Ladakh Section) in an order on Monday has constituted a “High Powered Committee” (HPC) to discuss measures to protect Ladakh’s land, jobs, unique culture and language.

Taking into consideration its geographical location and its strategic importance, it has been decided to constitute a High Powered Committee (HPC) under the chairmanship of Shri Nityanand Rai, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Gol for the Union Territory of Ladakh, announced the MHA in the said order.

The committee is constituted to discuss measures to “protect the region’s unique culture and language”, “protection of land and employment for the people of Ladakh”, “inclusive development and employment generation in the region”, and “empowerment of LAHDCs of Leh and Kargil”.

The committee include Shri Nityanand Rai, Minister of State for Home as Chairman, Shri Radha Krishna Mathur, Lieutenant Governor, Union territory of Ladakh, Shri Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, Member of Parliament (Ladakh), Chairman/CEC, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh, Chairman/CEC, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil, Joint Secretary, D/o Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh Affairs, MHA, Director/ Deputy Secretary (Ladakh), D/o Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, Affairs, MHA – Member Secretary and one nominated member from MHA.

The committee include five embers from the Apex Body Leh: Shri Thupstan Chhewang (Chairman, Apex Body, Leh; President, Ladakh Buddhist Association), Shri Nawang Rigzin Jora (Ex-Minister, J&K; President, Territorial Congress Committee, Ladakh) Shri Ashraf Ali Barcha (President, Anjuman-e-Imamia; Shia body, Leh), Shri Acharya Stanzin Wangtak (President, All Ladakh Gompa Association), Shri Kushok Thiksey, Nawang Chamba Stanzin, Thiksey Rinpoche, Leh.

The committee also include four members from Kargil Democratic Alliance: Shri Asgar Ali Karablai (Co-Chairman, KDA and Working President Territorial Congress Committee, Ladakh), Shri Qamar Ali Akhoon (Co-Chairman, KDA and Senior NC Leader), Shri Sajjad Kargili (Social Activist and Representative, Islamia School, Kargil), and Shri Tsewang Nurboo, President, LBA, Kargil.
