Fisheries Department celebrates World Fisheries Day

Kargil, Nov 19, 2022: Department of Fisheries today celebrated the World Fisheries Day 2022 at conference Hall Drass.

The BDC’s of Rambirpura and Bhimbhet, Sarpanches, Panches, fish farmers of the district also attended the event.

While interacting with a large gathering of farmers and PRI members, Murtaza Ali Assistant Director Fisheries Kargil highlighted the importance of World Fisheries Day.

He reiterated that this year the department distributed 55000 trout seeds and 70 quintals of trout feed to fish farmers under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), a centrally sponsored scheme.

He said it would play a major role in uplifting the socio-economic condition of rural populace and also provides employment opportunities to unemployed youth of the region by undertaking fish culture. 

On the occasion, the BDCs said Kargil is considered as one of the most suitable regions for undertaking fish farming because of its favorable resources and climatic conditions.

They also stressed on conducting awareness programs for local fish farmers besides arranging exposure tours to other parts of the country. 

While interacting with the farmers, they demanded to increase the subsidy from 60 percent to 80 percent to which the AD Fisheries assured that the demands will be taken up with the concerned authorities.   

The event ended with vote of thanks to the BDCs. Department also distributed feed and equipment among fish farmers who have constructed fish pond under PMMSY scheme.
