BHC&RC Kargil launch programme for sisters on Menstrual Hygiene

VoL Desk, Nov. 16: Baqirya Health Care and Research Centre, Kargil launched its programme for sisters “menstrual health and hygiene as a human right issue and sensitization regarding use of Menstrual cups and tampoons” at CHC Sankoo today.

Around hundred females including ASHAS, CHC Sankoo staffs and girl students of Higher Secondary School Sankoo participated in the event.

BMO Sankoo Dr Ghulam Hussain, BMO Shargole and founder member of Baqirya Dr Zahida Banoo, Gynecologist and Obstetrician/Vice president Baqirya Dr Fatima Nasren, Miss Khushboo Joshi founder Shoqpa, Female Member Advocate Zareena Banoo, Mrs Syeda Banoo supervisory member BHC&RC also participated in the event. The programme was conducted in collaboration with BMO Sankoo and Shoqpa foundation.

Dr Fatima Nasreen Gynecologist and Obstetrician / Vice President Baqirya detailed the audience about the subject and said that since most women and girls between menarche and menopause who menstruate as a normal bodily function is still met with silence, taboos and stigma and accommodating the menstrual needs is a key issue that needs to take concrete action to ensure that discriminatory mindsets are changed and protect women’s and girls’ menstrual health.

With a power point presentation, she further emphasised on the importance of Menstrual cycle as a natural process and how to maintain Menstrual hygiene and the importance of hygiene. She focused the audience on the use of various products, the pros and cons of such stuffs needed during the menstrual periods.

Miss Khushboo Joshi founder Shoqpa organisation also highlighted on the subject and gave an anatomical demonstration of the female reproductive system in context to the use of Menstrual cups.

Dr Zahida Bano BMO Shargole and founder member of Baqirya also delivered the importance of Menstrual health, hygiene and drew attention to this fundamental part of the female human rights.

There was an interactive session with the audience wherein various doubts were cleared by Dr Fatima Nasreen and other experts regarding the subject and even one of the students bagged a token of prize money from Baqirya for having the best interactive session with the experts.

The team distributed sanitary kits among the female audience.

Concluding the session VP Baqirya Dr Fatima Nasreen thanked the audience of ASHAS and students of higher secondary school Sankoo, BMO Sankoo Dr Ghulam Hussain, Miss Khushboo Joshi founder Shoqpa, CHC staffs and Doctors and volunteers of Baqirya, PIC IKMT and GML news for their participation and cooperation in organising this camp successfully.
