Workshop for NGOs and Voluntary Org by Social Welfare Department Leh concludes

Leh, Oct 01: The second day of the workshop for NGOs of Leh district on Social Welfare Schemes /Role of NGOs/ Funding pattern saw deliberations on various schemes under Ministry of Minority Affairs (MOMA), and Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA), and on Juvenile Justice. The workshop organized by the Department of Social Welfare & Tribal Affairs Leh Ladakh concludes Friday.

 Addressing the participants in the concluding session, Commissioner / Secretary Social & Tribal Welfare UT Ladakh Padma Angmo appreciated the active participation of various NGOs in the 2-day workshop in particular and their work for the welfare of the society in general. She urged them to chalk outtheir proposals well in timeso that once the online portal of Government of India invites proposals from NGOs the proposals from Ladakh can be submitted. The department on their part would assist the NGOs by organizing a workshop with the Ministries during the online registration process, to discuss any issues that the NGOs may face while submitting their proposals, he added.

 Earlier, during the sessions, Director, Ministry of Minority Affairs GoI Pawan Kumar, U/S Vikas Mohan and Consultant John Devsudram, in their online session, gave an overview about various schemes of Ministry of Minority Affairs, GoI.

 Consultant Ministry of Tribal Affairs GoI, Kuldip Singh and Project Officer MoTA Jharna Mishra, in their online session, detailed out various schemes of the Ministry and how NGOs can get funding for their programme in sectors like education, skill development, old age scheme, disability etc in Tribal areas They impressed upon the fact that NGOs of a region play pivotal role of reaching out to every individual of a society to spread awareness about schemes and their benefits.  Member Juvenile Justice Board Leh Abdul Rahim talked in detail about the child protection priorities in a detail presentation on Mission Vatsalya, and role of NGOs in spreading awareness and all other aspects.

Towards the end, Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Leh Thinles Dorjey in his concluding speech gave an overview of the two days’ session.

 The one and half day Workshop was attended by about 50 participants representing 29 NGOs of Leh and aimed at building capacities of NGOs to actively participate in various welfare schemes of Government of India and also focused on the procedures that the NGOs need to follow to get funding from the Ministries.The workshop at Leh followed a similar workshop held at Kargil on 27-28th September.

 Commissioner Secretary Social and Tribal Welfare said that this is among the series of Workshop being conducted by the Department of Social &Tribal Welfare to strengthen the implementing arms of the Department who carry out the schemes and programmers at the ground level. She also informed that a comprehensive residential training of the Anganwadi Workers of Ladakh is being rolled out from 10th of October where 10 batches of 30 Angawadi Workers each are being trained for 15 days at National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development, NIPCCD Mohali, Punjab.

While, the first day saw Sr. Programme Officer, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, GoI Risha Nusrat giving an overview of National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR) and participation of NGOs in Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan; Under Secretary, Department of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment , GoI, Mohd. Mirazuddin spoke widely about the schemes for Persons with Disability; District Social Welfare Officer Nilza Angmo spoke about implementation of schemes of Social Welfare; Clinical Psychologist SNM Hospital Leh Dr. Padma Angmo gave a detailed and alarming report on the current scenario of drugs/ substance abuse in Leh district, and State Head HelpAge India, Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh Dr. Rajesh Kumar spoke at length about the importance of Social Justice for Elderly in our society. Group activity and discussion were among the main components that helped bring forth issues and concerns in our society and the collective effort to redress them in the long run. Deliberations helped clear doubts about schemes and also were helpful in building strong networking and relation among the Resource Persons and the participants to work in collaboration for the society.
