Cabs with UT Permits allege harassment by traffic police in Ladakh

Srinagar, CNS, Sep. 24: Cab drivers from Kashmir are up in arms against the erring  traffic Police in Ladakh  over the alleged harassment even after producing all the necessary documents as requested by the authorities.

While speaking to CNS, members of Tourist Taxi federation alleged that they are being harassed by the traffic police at a number of places while heading towards Ladakh and are being fined in thousands despite having permits for all routes across the valley.

They added that despite being in possession of all documents and despite following traffic rules, they are being targeted every now and then.

They alleged that Cab drivers from Ladakh, Kargil having district permits only are easily allowed  to ferry commuters in valley. However,kashmiri drivers having UT Permits are being harassed.

“Despite having a valid permit, I was fined ten thousand rupees by the traffic police with the excuse of Kashmir and Ladakh being two different union territories. We have no source of income and we appeal LG Administration to take the matter seriously,”  one of the drivers added.

Meanwhile, the drivers demanded the higher ups intervene against the erring cops who are creating unnecessary hurdles for the commuters passing through the highway.

“If they want us to get another permit issued for Ladakh UT, authorities must set up booths for the issuance of same in the Ladakh.”, they demanded(CNS)
