IKMT express grief over flash flood incident at Amarnath

VoL Desk, July 11: Chairman, Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust (IKMT) Kargil, Sheikh Sadiq Rajai convened a meeting of the Executive Body of the organisation to discuss the flood situation and disaster caused in different parts of the region.

In the meanwhile, the IKMT expressed deep sorrow and condolences with the families of flood victims of Amarnath Yatra who were killed in a cloudburst incident on Friday. Around 16 people had died after flash floods caused landslips near the Baltal base camp in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal area.

“Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust Kargil has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the unfortunate flash flood incident hitting the Amarnath Yatra camps in which a large number of pilgrims lost precious lives, and several others were reportedly injured or missing”, the organisation maintained in a press release.

The IKMT Kargil appealed the J&K UT Administration to intensify the rescue operation at the site and extend all possible relief for the surviving victims  and treatment to those injured in this unfortunate  incident.

IKMT Kargil, has also expressed deep heartfelt condolences with the bereaved families and fast recovery of the people injured.

Pertinent to mention that, after the meeting a three member delegation of the IKMT led by Vice Chairman, IKMT, Sheikh Bashir Shakir also visited the flash flood affected families at Stakpa village on Sunday. The delegation distributed food items among the flood victims.

Speaking to media, the IKMT delegation appealed the District and UT Administration to make an estimate of damages and provide relief to the villagers. The delegation further appealed the Administration to construct protection walls on both side of the nala to mitigate similar damage in future.
