Leh, June 17: Administrative Secretary, Sports and Youth Services Department, UT Ladakh, Ravinder Kumar chaired a meeting to discuss the preparations for “Chess Olympiad Torch Relay to be flagged off by Hon’ble Prime Minister on 19th of July from Delhi”. The upcoming edition of the Chess Olympiad is scheduled to take place in Mahabalipuram from July 28 to August 10.

During the meeting, Secretary Ravinder informed thatthe Chess Olympiad Torch Relay team will arrive in Leh on June 20 and the programme is scheduled to be held at Thiksey Monastery, 2 pm on the same day. 

To popularise the game of Chess, the Secretary directed the concerned officials to organise demo matches during the programme. He also urged to identify good chess players/chess clubs from Ladakh to participate in thedemo matches. The chess players would also get an opportunity to interact with the members of the Relay team. The Secretary stated that this programme is a great initiative to motivate the players. Therefore, he directed the concerned officials to ensure proper arrangements to run the programme with ease.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner, Leh; Director, School Education, Ladakh; SeniorSuperintendent of Traffic Police; Deputy Director, NYK, Leh; District Youth Services and Sports officer, Leh; AD, Information Department, Leh; and officials from the concerned department.
