Vol Desk, May 31, 2022: Mutahhary Public School, High Department, Kargil marched an awareness rally on “World No Tobacco Day” here from the school campus to Megawatt, Kurbathang.

World No Tobacco Day is observed every year on May 31 by the World Health Organization and Global Partners.

During the rally, public awareness placards were displayed to inform about the adverse effects of smoking or chewing tobacco.

Addressing the rally, teacher Feroz Ali stated that as per the motto of the World Health Organisation all personnel in the health profession must ensure to prevent smoking.

Zehra Jabeen and Mehvish Fatima, students of Class 8th delivered a fact-loaded speech on awareness and drawbacks of tobacco use.

Teacher, Imtiyaz Hussain stated that tobacco use causes various types of cancers, Cardiovascular (heart) diseases, TB, and several other diseases and the life span of smokers is reduced by 6 to 10 years compared to non-smokers.

Teacher Fatima Banoo quoted that tobacco kills more people than any other addiction and it’s time, we educate people young and old people alike to stay away from tobacco.

The teachers and students of the school also pledged to create awareness and say no to the use of tobacco. A total of 330 students, 15 faculty, and non-teaching staff participated in the pledge.
