General Council Meeting postpones as opposition Councillors move No-Confidence Motion

VoL, April 09, 2022: As Councillors of the opposition party initiated a no-confidence motion, the Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhdeve in an order hours before the General Council Meeting has postponed the said meeting.

“Whereas, 6 (Six) Hon’ble Councilors of Bhartiya Janata Party and 6 (Six) Hon’ble Councilors of Indian National Congress, vide their letters dated 08/04/2022 submitted in this office have intimated that they have withdrawn their support from the present dispensation of LAHDC Kargil and requested for initiating process under Section 27(2) of the LAHDC Act”, read the order.

As per the Section 27(2) of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Act “The Chairman may be removed from office by a resolution carried by a majority of the total number of members at a special meeting of the council called for the purpose upon a requisition made in writing by not less than one-third of such members of the council”

“Whereas, keeping in view the political developments in LAHDC, Kargil, it would not be appropriate to go ahead with the General Council Meeting till position of all the Hon’ble Councilors is cleared with regard to their support to the present dispensation”, read the order. “Therefore, in view of the above and keeping in view the unprecedented situation, the General Council Meeting is hereby postponed till further notice”, the order maintained.

Pertinent to mention that, on March 30, requesting the DC to dissolve the present LAHDC Kargil, the Bharatiya Janata Party councillor including the four nominated named Stanzin Lakpa (Councillor-Cha), Mohd Ali Chandan (Councillor-Shargole), Padma Dorjey (Councillor- Nominated), Leela Bano (Councillor- Nominated), Stanzin Chosgyal (Councillor- Nominated) and Zainab Bee (Councillor- Nominated) had given a submission.

The six councillors of the Congress party are Nasir Husssain Munshi (Councillor Choskore), Kacho Mohd Feroz (Councillor Pushkum), Agha Syed Mohammad Shah (Councillor Bhimbat Drass), Zakir Hussain (Councillor Shakar), Sheikh Mohammad Ansari (Councillor Barsoo), and Haji Mohammad Qasim (Councillor Khangral). However, Councillor Minji Ghulam Mehdi and Councillor Karcha Stanzin Ala were out of station, said sources.
