UoL extends date for admission in PG courses

VoL Desk, March 05, 2022: After hue and cry from the students’ fraternity over sudden fee hike for the PG courses and short period for admission process in the University of Ladakh, the varsity has extended the dates for admission process.

In a recent notice, the Assistant Registrar, UoL informed to all the concerned that the last date for document verification and submission of fees for admission to P. G courses is hereby extended till 10.03.2022 (4:00 PM). The next merit list shall be displayed on 10.03.2022 (evening).

The Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan in a letter to the Vice-Chancellor, UoL, Prof. Surinder K. Mehta expressed concern over “huge hike in the fees of all PG Courses in UT Ladakh”.

The CEC maintained that the sole purpose of the establishment of the University is to provide affordable and accessible higher education to the students of Ladakh. “However, I have been given to understand that the fee this year has been hiked over 150%. A course with an annual fee of Rs 12,000/- is currently being provided against an annual fee of Rs 30,000/-.

“This defeats the very purpose of establishment of a university in a remote and geographically challenging location such as Ladakh. Students who can afford such huge fees prefer education from outside the UT due to varied reasons. The majority of the students taking admission to the university are those who cannot afford such huge fees.

“Therefore, I would like to solicit your kind intervention to reduce the fees to a reasonable amount so that the economically weaker section of the society could not be deprived of quality higher education.

The CEC also raised the very short window of the period given to the selected students for completing their admissions in the PG Courses.

“Effectively, only two days of window has been provided to the students as the notification was published late in the afternoon on the 3rd March 2022 and is open to students till 5th March 2022. I request you to kindly extend this window so that all students could avail admissions.

Addressing the protest gathering assembled against the Shia Mosque blast in Pakistan, President Jamiat Ulema Kargil, Sheikh Nazir Mehdi Mohammadi also raised the issue of sudden fee hike in University of Ladakh and appealed the administration to deduct the fee and to extend the date of admission.
