CEC reviews initial drawings for construction of indoor sports complex in Kargil

KARGIL, FEBRUARY 01, 2022: A virtual meeting was today held regarding the construction of an indoor sports complex to be set up in Kargil under the Special Development Package (SDP) 2022 at the existing indoor stadium near Hussaini Park, Kargil.

Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC, Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan chaired the meeting while Secretary Youth Service and Sports UT Ladakh, Ravinder Kumar, DYSSO Kargil, Muhammad Hussain Rehnuma and representatives of the consulting agency were present in the meeting.

The secretary informed the meeting that the project was sanctioned under the SDP while WAPCOS Ltd. has been hired as the consulting agency. He asked the representatives of the agency to present the drawings to the house.

While presenting the drawings of the sports complex, it was informed that it would be constructed in three levels: the basement level would include parking space, ground-level would include change rooms, washing area with sauna, storeroom, boxing rings and playing area for table tennis.

The level-1 would accommodate a large multipurpose hall that could accommodate two badminton courts and can also be used for other sports activities.

CEC Khan while reviewing the drawings impressed upon the consulting agency to ensure that all modern facilities are available in the design especially dedicated sporting area for martial arts sports like Taekwondo, Karate, Mixed Martial Arts etc.

Khan also stressed on inclusion of separate change and wash areas for male and female sportspersons. He said that the sports complex would enable the youths of Kargil to reach their dreams and aspirations and will be a platform for them.

During the meeting, Secretary Kumar asked the consulting agency to consult the LAHDC, Kargil before finalizing the drawings. He also suggested that a meeting of all the indoor sports associations should be held to take their suggestions.

CEC welcomed the suggestions put forth by the Secretary and desired that the consulting agency will visit Kargil in next two weeks to collect feedback in person.

It was decided in the meeting that the necessary revision to the drawing should be made after consulting the sports associations in Kargil.

The revised drawings would be finished and submitted for further necessary action to the Secretary within a period of 15 days.

The consulting agency would visit Kargil within two weeks to take the suggestions and views from the local stakeholders.

Stressing on need for constant monitoring of construction works of sports infrastructure in the district, Secretary Youth Service and Sports requested CEC to conduct a review meeting of works on laying of AstroTurf, synthetic track and International Ice Hockey Rink at Kurbathang, Kargil.

He also requested the CEC to share his feedback regarding the requirements for developing world-class sports infrastructure in Kargil district.
