“Enchanting Ladakh” opens at Dilli Haat Delhi

Delhi, Dec 19: The third edition of Enchanting Ladakh, an exhibition cum sale of Handicrafts and Handlooms of Ladakh was inaugurated today by the Chiefs of autonomous hill development councils of Kargil & Leh, Feroz Ahmed Khan and Tashi Gyaltson respectively; and the Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor Umang Narula. The Development Commissioner, Handicraft who is also Director General, NIFT, Shantmanu was also present for the inauguration.

Enchanting Ladakh is organised at Dilli Haat every year to expound the rich and diverse Ladakhi culture & tradition. Many of the traditional Ladakhi crafts – stone carving, wood carving, thangka making, metal craft, wood craft are on display along with live demonstrations at the venue. Similarly, carpets, shawls and other wool and Pashmina items are on show.

81 artisans from Ladakh are participating in the event. 40 artisans from Kargil and 40 from Leh districts have put up their stalls at the event. The event will also see the presence of the Changpa (nomadic) tribes, who are the actual rearers and herders of Pashmina goats and have designed and developed value-added products made from the luxury fiber such as shawls, caps, cardigans, sweaters, socks, gloves, etc.

The artisans will also attend industrial visits and trainings during the period, being lined up by the Industries & Commerce Department, Ladakh.

Along with the display of Handicrafts and Handlooms, the evenings would also be lit up with the scintillating cultural performance from various regions of Ladakh.

Secretary Industries and Commerce UT Ladakh, Saugat Biswas, Director Moses Kunzang and many other distinguished guests from the government and private sector were present during the event. The event at Dilli Haat, near INA market will conclude on the 31st December, 2021.
