Sports Authority of India to establish Centre in Kargil

KARGIL, AUGUST 22, 2021: Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan in presence of the Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve chaired a review meeting pertaining to the sports activities of Sports Authority of India (SAI) in Kargil at Tourist Facilitation Centre Biamathang here today.

Director In Charge SAI Regional Centre Chandigarh P K Maltu, In Charge SAI Training Centre Kargil Ghulam Mustafa, Chief Basket Ball Coach In Charge Scheme SAI Regional Centre Chandigarh C P Thakur, Senior Athletic Coach SAI In Charge Training Centre Ludhiana Jasbir Singh, Secretary Taekwondo Association Ladakh Anayat Ali Shotopa besides concerned officers were present during the meeting.

During the course of the meeting, Director In Charge SAI Regional Centre Chandigarh P K Matlu expressed gratitude to the LAHDC and District Administration Kargil for allocation of 500 kanals of land at Kurbathang for establishment of SAI Centre in Kargil and added that the proposed works will be started by next year. He further  informed that 100 bedded hostels each for boys and girls, multipurpose hall for all indoor games and athletic track are proposed in the project.

CEC Feroz Khan suggested that Wushu and Archery should be included in the SAI Centre for future training and sporting activities to which he was assured by the concerned officers that proposal will be submitted in this regard. He said that once the infrastructure is developed young players can avail the benefits of sporting activities through the SAI campus as there is no dearth of sporting talent here in Kargil if required opportunities, infrastructure and coaching is provided to the players. 

Meanwhile, DC Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve said that synthetic Astro turf should be necessarily included in the campus and due consultation with the architectural team must be ensured. He also underlined the need to complete all paper works related to the project well before the start of the next working season.
