LAHDC Kargil review post flash flood situation

Directs to pace up relief, rehabilitation measures for affected families

 KARGIL, AUGUST 03, 2021: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan convened a meeting of the Executive Councilors and concerned district officers to review the situation in the aftermath of flash floods in the district, and to chalk out a future plan of action. 

Executive Councillor for Works Aga Syed Abass Razvi, Executive Councillor for Social Welfare Aga Syed Hassan Armaan Mosavi , Executive Councillor for Zanskar Affairs Er Phunsok Tashi, Executive Councillor for Health Mohsin Ali, Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve, Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) Kargil Abdul  Gaffar Zargar, Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Ghulam Mohammad, Executive Director NHIDCL, Executive Engineers of I&FC, Mechanical, PDD, PMGSY, Tehsildars besides other concerned officers attended the meeting.

The Executive Councilors informed the CEC about post-flood situation in their respective areas and various relief and rehabilitation measures underway besides the concerned district officers informed about various issues and steps taken by different departments to address the issues of people in flood affected areas. 

SDM Shakar Chiktan and Tehsildars of Tai Suru and Sankoo through briefed the CEC about various rehabilitation measures and necessary arrangements made by them in their respective areas. 

It was informed that 8 houses at Khawos, 13 irrigation khuls at Sankoo besides agricultural lands, trees and standing crops have suffered damages.

The Tehsildar Suru informed that eight families from flood damaged Khawos have been shifted to KDA Guest House. They have been provided free ration, blankets, kitchen sets and other requisite facilities. 

SDM Shakar Chiktan apprised the CEC that 2 houses have been fully damaged in Bodhkarbu and free ration have been provided to the affected families that will soon be shifted to a govt accommodation.

CEC Feroz Khan while expressing satisfaction over the measures taken by different departments for relief and rehabilitation measures in various flash flood affected areas so far instructed the concerned officers to identify irrigation khuls that are needed to be restored immediately to irrigate lands. He instructed the Executive Engineer I&FC to initiate work to restore major khuls that have interrupted the irrigation of agricultural lands. 

 The CEC further instructed the Revenue Department to submit the report regarding the assessment of damages to houses, livestock, trees, standing crops, agricultural land and other assets to the Deputy Commissioner Kargil  as early as possible to put forward demands for budget from the UT Administration. 

CEC Khan further said that awareness is also needed to enlighten people not to construct buildings in flood prone areas. He instructed concerned officers for immediate arrangement of accommodation for those families who have lost their houses in the floods, adding he said that the accommodation should be appropriate to shield the families from the upcoming cold winter season. 

Deputy Commissioner Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve said that the flash flood situation has affected different areas in 3 blocks of the district and tehsil level teams are monitoring the situation on ground. 

DC Santosh Sukhadeve informed that houses, khuls, livestock, bridges, roads, and crops have been damaged at various places.

He further said that revenue teams are already on work to estimate the actual loss on the ground, and accordingly measures will be taken to address the issues of the affected families. He further said that a long term plan also will be chalked out to avoid such losses in future.
