Tambis waterfall may deplete soon! Voicing for protection

Nature has carved different creatures in the universe in a very different way to make it beautiful for the sake of living things and to enhance the beauty of the environment. A natural spot that has recently become popular among tourists and picnickers is the eye-catching waterfall at Tambis. To date, it remained hidden from the general public. Only locals and few people were aware of the hotspot and it became popular among outsiders recently.

The waterfall is around 10-15 meters in height located at a distance of 3.5 km from village Kanoor, Tambis, District Kargil. Travelers need a trek for around 2.5 km to reach the place. The very much beautiful location has got the eye of local public when some went to spent holidays in the area this year in the month of April. Steadily, the location went viral on social media among the public and within no time local travelers start to trek the place. Some with friends, family, even tourists too. In recent times an average of around 50 plus visitors used to visit the site every day and more than 100 visitors on Sunday. The picnic spot has the potential to attract local and outside tourists while enhancing minor economic scope to few local youths. But to ensure judicious and eco-friendly use of the place some necessary steps are needed to take immediately.

The environment around the hotspot is very fragile. There is less plantation on the way to the waterfall. The locals are very much concerned about the location, agricultural fields, and water bodies from being polluted with disposals, plastics, and other wastes materials left out by the travelers. In addition, open defecation is also adding to the pollution. The non-degradable wastes are hazardous to the fragile environment. There is no dustbin/dumping site for the residuals. Visitors leaving their waste residues by the side of the way are resulting in pollution of the environment.

There are various hotspots in Kargil, which have the potential for tourism but a very positive step needs to be taken on time by the tourism department so that the fragile environment could stay fit and clean. The department needs to sanction funds to construct a footpath which leads to the waterfall, a viewpoint near it, and to install the dustbin on the sideway. Immediate actions are needed over the issue otherwise the environment near the hotspots will be depleted.
