“Most beef business in Kargil operates without FSSAI license”

KARGIL, JUNE 17, 2021: Office of the Assistant Commissioner Food Safety, Drug and Food Control Organization, UT Ladakh in a fresh notice has instructed beef business operators in District Kargil to obtain FSSAI license within 15 days.

As per the notice that was issued on Monday, June 14, 2021, the Office of the Commissioner Food Safety, Drug and Food Control Organization observed that most of the beef business operators in district Kargil are functioning without FSSAI license.

“It has been observed that most of the Beef business Operators (Slaughter Houses/Retails) of Kargil district have been operating their business without obtaining the FSSAI License which is mandatory under Food Safety Standards Act 2006, noncompliance of these shall be liable to prosecute under Section 63 of FSS Act 2006”, the notice read.

The Section 63 of FSS Act 2006 reads, “Punishment for carrying out a business without license. If any person or food business operator (except the persons exempted from licensing under sub-section (2) of section 31 of this Act), himself or by any person on his behalf who is required to obtain license, manufacturers, sells, stores or distributes or imports any article of food without license, shall be punishable”.

“In this regard it is directed to all Slaughtering Houses/ Beef Retail owners to apply for FSSAI license within 15 days after that strict action will be taken against defaulters”, the notice added.
