KGSL launch street libraries in Kargil

KARGIL, JUNE 04, 2021: In a first of its kind in North India, Khuwaja Ghulam Sayyedain Library (KGSL) Kargil installed six number of street libraries at different locations in between Kargil city and Baroo, here today.

Deputy Commissioner and CEO Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve inaugurated the street Library here at Tourist Facilitation Centre Biamathang Kargil. On the occasion, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anayat Ali Choudhary, Ex MLA and member of Guardian Council IKMT Haji Asgar Ali Karbalai, Vice Chairman for religious affairs IKMT Sheikh Bashir Shakir, General Secretary IKMT Haji Hussain Pashkumpa, and members of KGSL were present.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Santosh said that the idea of installing the street Library and the manufacturing of the setup both were awe-inspiring. He further said that the culture of Library and reading habit should propagate in all over the district.

On the occasion, SSP Anayat Choudhary said that the launch of Library will florish reading habit among youth. He urged the public to coordinate in making the move a successful one.

Briefing about the libraries, member of the library Nasiruddin Khafi said that the street libraries are aimed to provide easy access of books to readers. The libraries are developed on the idea of “read a book, return a book”. He hoped that the public would coordinate in smooth functioning of the street libraries.

Pertinent to mention that the KGS Library is a sub organ of the Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust Kargil that was launched in 2020 by a group of youth studying outside Ladakh.
