GDC Kargil, Drass organizes Events in connection with Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav

KARGIL APRIL 16, 2021: In continuation with the ongoing celebration of Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav, Government Degree College (GDC) Kargil and Government Degree College (GDC) Drass organised various events here today.

GDC Drass organized an online talk of two eminent experts of Ladakh Dr Muzaffar Hussain, Assistant Professor Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Hyderabad and Dr Rinchen Dolma of the University of Ladakh. 

Dr Muzaffar Hussain talked on the topic Ideals and Interaction with the World: Understanding the Foreign Policy of Independent India. He discussed about the earlier policies adopted by Indian Government and the present scenario.

Dr Rinchen Dolma in her talk threw light on the topic Baba Saheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar’s Life in Shaping Indian Politics and briefed the audience that Baba Saheb was not only actively struggling against British captivity but was also fighting against social evils prevailing at that time.

Both the presentations were very helpful to the students and the students praised both the speakers for such wonderful presentations. They also requested the college authorities to organize similar talks in future as well. 

On the other side, Government Degree College Kargil organized a plantation drive and seminar on the theme Biodiversity of Ladakh Cold Desert at the college premises here today.

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Kargil Sajid Sultan was the chief guest on the occasion while Dr Javed I Naqi was the guest of honor.

The programme was coordinated by the Department of Environmental Sciences of the college in which around 70 to 80 students and faculty members participated.

DFO Kargil Sajid Sultan in his address talked about the various activities being carried out by the Forest and Wildlife Department for protection and management of biodiversity and wildlife. He stressed on the importance of involving local community as a key stakeholder for the protection and management of wild plants and animals.  

Earlier, while welcoming the guests and the participants, Dr. Javed I Naqi briefly deliberated about the background and theme of the programme.

Students of 4th semester Muhammad Hassan, Fatima Banoo and Nargis Begum presented their speeches on plant and animal diversity of Ladakh.

Among the faculty members, Assistant Professor Environmental Sciences Dr Abdul Hamid gave a power point presentation on the title Checklist of Some Plant Species Having Ethno-botanical Uses in Indus Valley of Lower Ladakh wherein he deliberated on the ethno-botanical uses of around 30 herb and shrub species being used by the local inhabitants. 

The seminar was followed by a plantation drive in the college campus where the chief guest and the participants planted willow saplings.  

Proceedings of the programme were conducted by students of 4th semester Nargis Banoo and Farida Batool.
