Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav: Series of Events held Across Kargil

KARGIL MARCH 12, 2021: As a part of Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav to mark the beginning of the nationwide celebrations of the 75th anniversary of India’s independence, series of events and activities were held today in Kargil with patriotic fervour and zeal.

The daylong events started with the inauguration of an Archery exhibition match by the Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve along with the Senior Superintendent of Police Kargil Anayat Ali Choudhary at Khree Sultan Chow Sports Stadium Biamathang, Kargil.

The Deputy Commissioner along with the SSP, Kargil also flagged off a freedom run from Khree Sultan Chow Sports Stadium Biamathang, Kargil which after passing through different locations of Baroo and Kargil Town culminated at Language Centre New Academy Complex, Kargil where the main function was held.

SSP Kargil Anayat Ali Choudhary, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil Tsering Motup, Chief Planning Officer Kargil Abdul Hadi, Programme Officer, ICDS Kargil Nargis Banoo, all district officers, volunteers of Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Kargil besides students of Government Degree College (GDC), Kargil and Government Girls Higher Secondary School Kargil were present on the occasion. 

During the main function, speakers including the DC Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve, District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Kargil, Muhammad Hussain Rehnuma,  District Coordinator, Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Kargil Jigmet Spaldon, Assistant Professor Government Degree College (GDC), Kargil Tsewang Gyaltson and Representative of Zila Sainik Welfare, Kargil Retired Naik Haji Muhammad Mussa spoke at length about the noteworthy sacrifices and great contribution of the freedom fighters in the emancipation of India from the British slavery.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve said that beginning of the nationwide celebrations of the 75th anniversary of India’s independence is an ideal occasion for us to recall the supreme sacrifices of our freedom fighters for which we should owe indebtedness to them. He said that the real tribute and respect to these great heroes would be that we make concerted efforts to follow the path of dedication and sincerity towards the cause of nation building shown by them, adding he said that the Administration and the public should work together for the progress of the country.

Meanwhile, Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture and Languages Kargil presented a 30 minutes play on the theme Indian Independence and Freedom struggle which was presented by the artists of the Regional Art and Theatre Arts Group (Ranthag), Kargil while a short documentary of film on the theme India’s Freedom Struggle was presented by Government Degree College, Kargil.

Later, the dignitaries and all participants took pledge to protect the sovereignty and integrity of the country and also expressed their pledge towards nation building.

Muhammad Ibrahim Shoqi conducted the proceedings while Assistant Director Information Kargil Muhammad Ali Tak presented the vote of thanks.    

On the other side, Education Department Kargil organized interschool drawing and essay competitions where 6 students each from different government high schools participated in the competitions. The students in their essays and paintings paid tributes to the freedom fighters of India.

On the occasion, Coordinator SAMAGRA Shabir Hussain, Coordinator Culture Syed Sajjad Hussain, Coordinator IED Marziya Banoo were present as supervisors while senior teachers and mentors from all participating schools and students were present on the occasion.

Providing a brief about the month long celebrations, Syed Sajjad Hussain, said that the celebration all over country have begun today on March 12 and on the same day Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi had embarked on the Dandi March.

Similarly, District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) Kargil organized programme for celebration of “Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav” at Tourist Facilitation Centre Biamathang.

The programme was conducted under the guidance and supervision of the Chairman DLSA Kargil Muhammad Rafiq Chak.

Secretary DLSA Kargil Wangial Tsering, President Panchayat Coordination Committee Haji Issa Ali, Principal Suru Valley School Kargil Ghulam Mohammad, President Bar Association Advocate Khadim Hussain, Advocate Mustafa MH, Sarpanchs, Panchs, members of Nehru Yuva Kendra, staff of District Court Kargil and Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) were present on the occasion.

The speakers on the occasion threw light on the history and achievements of India in the last 75 years. The topic of Preamble of the Constitution and Article 39A along with provisions of Legal Services Authorities Act were also discussed by the speakers. 

Pertinent to mention that, as part of the Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav celebrations Forest Department Kargil today issued saplings/plants to various departments and institutions including Police Department, BDOs of Rural Development Department and different Panchayats to carry out plantations in different parts of the district.

On the occasion, 3000 saplings/plants were issued to different departments which were later planted at different locations at the District Headquarter Kargil, Shakar Chiktan Sub Division and Shargole Block.
