UoL, Kargil Campus Celebrates International Day for Biological Diversity

Kargil, May 22: Executive Councilor, Agriculture and Wildlife, LAHDC, Kargil Mohsin Ali today attended the celebration of International Day for Biological Diversity organized by Wildlife Protection Kargil in collaboration with Biodiversity Research Center and Department of Environmental Science, Kargil Campus, University of Ladakh and Kargil Forest Division with theme “From Agreement to Action: Build Back Biodiversity”.

During the event, Rector, Kargil Campus, UoL, Kaneez Fatima, DFO Kargil, Mohd Ali, Wildlife Warden Raza Ali Abidi, faculty members and students were present.

EC Mohsin said the day is meant to increase awareness and understanding of biodiversity issues and to encourage people to take action to protect and conserve biodiversity.

He said that biodiversity underpins peoples’ livelihood and sustainable development in all areas of activity, including economic sectors such as agriculture and forestry.

Mohsin added that biological resources are vital to humanity’s economic and social development. He also informed about the LAHDC, Kargil “Go Green” schemes aimed to provide plants for various institutions to make Ladakh organic and carbon neutral. He congratulated the allied departments for organizing such events.

He also informed the students about various subsidy components which are aimed to provide laptops, e-scooter and coaching for meritorious students. The EC stressed the students to focus on study and encouraged them to take part in such events.

EC Mohsin thanked the Wildlife Department for organizing the event and hoped to organize such events at high level at different institutions of Kargil district.

Rector, University Campus Kaneez Fatima focused on the resources and potential of Ladakh’s biodiversity.

District Forest Officer and Wildlife Warden also spoke on the occasion and said that such events are aimed to encourage students and staff to take action to preserve biodiversity and positive impact on the environment.

Earlier, a plantation drive was also conducted at the Kargil Campus, UoL.  Later, Dr Mohd Saleem of Biodiversity Research Center, UoL, Kargil Campus concluded the program with vote of thanks.
