G20 Presidency celebration held at GMDC Zanskar

Kargil April 08, 2023: With regard to the series of events concerning India’s G20 Presidency, Govt. Model Degree College Zanskar today held one day convention on Environment and Sustainable Development at the college campus.

The program was organized in collaboration with Tibetan School Alumini Association Zanskar (TSAAZ). Thukjey Geleck and Lobzang Tsewang, both members of the association were the guest speakers.

In his speech, Thukjey Geleck stressed on importance of universal brotherhood for a better and prosperous future for their society.

He advised the students to be morally and spiritually sound and mentally contented for a better and prosperous future. He appealed the students to individually contribute to make Zanskar a model of sustainable development for others.

Lobzang Tsewang expressed reservation on the dwindling ground water resources of Zanskar. He explained the importance of groundwater, its use and current status in Zanskar.

He stressed the importance of judious use of underground water and importance of plantation for its recharge. He further invited the students to become part of their association in their campaign to make Zanskar environmentally sustainable.

The speakers also shared the activities that their NGO has been carrying out in Zanskar since its inception. Literary contest, Go Green Initiative, Compassion day is some of the notable works that the association have been carrying out in Zanskar.

Notably, TSAAZ has been a key stakeholder during the community plantation drive that has been carried out in the college campus in May, 2022.

Around 80 students including faculties of the college participated in the program.

Earlier, the program started with the welcome speech of Incharge Principal Mohd Ishaq. Dr. Abdul Hamid, coordinator of the function in his introductory address highlighted the theme of the program to the audience.

Program proceedings were conducted by Dr. Abdul Hamid and vote of thanks was presented by Murtaza Ali, Director Physical Education and Sports.
