Co-curricular activities equally important for overall development of students; CS at EJM Inter-College Cultural Fest.

Announces inter college “Sustainable Campus Challenge” in the run up to Y20 presummit in Leh

Leh, March 29: To celebrate India’s Presidency of the G20 summit and ahead of the Y20 Pre-Summit scheduled to be held in Ladakh from 26th to 28th April 2023, University of Ladakh (UoL) in collaboration with Eliezer Joldan Memorial (EJM) College, Leh organised an Inter-College Cultural fest at EJM College, Leh today.  

Vice Chancellor, University of Ladakh Professor SK Mehta was the chief guest of the event and Commissioner/Secretary, Higher Education Department Padma Angmo was present as the Guest of Honour.
Dean Students Welfare, UoL Dr. Jigmat Dachen and faculty of the participating colleges were also present.

Students at the University of Ladakh, EJM College, Leh, Government Degree College, Khaltse and Central Institiute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS) Choglamsar presented a range of cultural performances before the audience and panelists Mipam Otsal, renowned theater artist and Dorjey Stakmo, popular Ladakhi musician.  

Commissioner/Secretary Padma Angmo, while addressing the event, commended the enthusiasm of the students and stated that along with academics, extra-curricular activities are vital for the overall development of the students. Further, she highlighted that with the implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP), skill-based model of learning shall be stressed upon, with focus on academics, vocational learning and extra-curricular activities equally.

She also informed that the performing art of theatre will soon be introduced as a co-curricular activity in EJM college, and requested the guidance of renowned theatre artist Mipam Otsal.

Further, the Commissioner Secretary announced the launch of “Sustainable Campus Challenge”, a contest of the colleges of Ladakh to come up with innovative ideas and solutions for promoting sustainability on their respective campuses. The winners of the contest will be felicitated at the Y20 summit, and the proposals will be implemented in the colleges with the support of the college and the Administration of Ladakh.  

The Vice-Chancellor, UoL, Professor SK Mehta applaud the performances and later distributed the prices and trophies among the winner and runner-up students.

Dr Samina Iqbal, Principal EJM college,  spoke of the role of youth in the development of the nation and highlighted the importance of using one’s skills to make a difference in the world.

EJM College band emerged as the winner of the competition.
