Qazi Syed Mohd Askary’s visit: Purpose not solved

The renowned scholar and learned cleric Moulana Qazi Syed Mohammad Askary visited the Kargil district on the auspicious occasion of the demise anniversary of Ayatollah Khomeini (r.a.). Moulana Qazi Askary is not a stranger to the people of Kargil, especially to the elders who had (in past) a habit to read.

Moulana Askary’s publications especially “Towheed” and “Payam-e-Saqlain” were widely read in the Kargil district at the onset of the Islamic Revolution. His audio cassettes were also widely circulated in the era of “cassette culture”. Thus, he does not need any further introduction.

In Kargil, observers have found a steep decline in the number of publics in congregations. The enthusiasm for the congregations has also waned considerably. There could be many other reasons for this decline. But, one key reason is the lack of quality and facts-loaded content of the speakers.

At such a time, when such an eminent speaker like Qazi Mohammad Askary graced us with his presence, we gave him the least chance to speak and told him our stories; as he had come to listen to us and not to speak.

Not speaking on behalf of other youth; but, I personally as a youth had expected a special interactive session of youth with Qazi Askary. Similarly, the other guests of the Iranian origin were also a great inspiration for the different sections of the society, if we would have listened to them instead of showing our buildings and chanting songs.

This recent schedule of the guests and speakers does not solve the very purpose of the visit that must be preaching and spiritual guidance. I hope, this will take as a constructive supposition and not as a comment.
