Rahul Gandhi issues adjournment notice to discuss Statehood, Schedule VI for Ladakh

KARGIL, DECEMBER 20, 2021: In a notice to the Secretary-General Lok Sabha Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today has asked for an adjournment motion to discuss Statehood and inclusion of Ladakh in Schedule VI of the Constitution of India.

The notice circulated to media houses reads as under: “I hereby give notice of my intention to ask for leave to move a motion for the adjournment of the business of the house for the purpose of discussing a definite matter of urgent importance, namely:

“Statehood and inclusion of Ladakh in Schedule VI of the Constitution of India. To constitute committee with stakeholders, including members from the Leh Apex Body and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) to consider their demands; and to take urgent actions to ensure unhindered access to pasture lands in the border areas that were traditionally accessible.”

The primary object of an adjournment motion is to draw the attention of the House to a recent matter of urgent public importance having serious consequences and with regard to which a motion or a resolution with proper notice will be too late.

The matter proposed to be raised should be of such a character that something very grave has happened and the House is required to pay its attention immediately by interrupting the normal business of the House.

Pertinent to mention that on December 15, 2021, Member of Parliament (MP) from Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal’s in a statement in the Parliament demanded for Six Schedule type safeguard via empowerment of LAHDCs. However, the Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance were quick to flay the MP Ladakh saying that his statement is given on the dictations of BJP high command to demean the recent successful Ladakh Bandh protest for Statehood and inclusion of Ladakh under Sixth Schedule.
